1 INTRODUCTION A sense of belonging is a fundamental human need (Allen, Gray, et al., 2022; Baumeister & Leary, 1995), reflecting an innate desire for connection with others. As such, a sense of belonging is crucial to adolescent development and is associated with social and emotional well-being and self-esteem (Allen et al., 2019; Arslan et al., 2020; Begen & Turner-Cobb, 2015; Korpershoek et al., 2020).
