I’m a U.S. citizen who lives most of the year in Canada. But when I pick up coffee or purchase subway fare in my adopted city of Toronto, I often find myself habitually turning to the same few American credit cards I’ve owned and used for years. Using my American cards while living across the border helps me maintain my U.S. credit history. Plus, I’ve found that they offer more value than comparably-priced Canadian cards.

The average credit card interest rate is 21.10 percent. Lenders left APRs on most new card offers unchanged this week, according to CreditCards.com’s latest Weekly Rate Report. As a result, the national average APR for brand-new credit cards held steady Wednesday after rising unexpectedly last week to its highest point on record. Consumers who compare credit card offers can expect APRs on most new cards to still be several points higher than they were last year.

The average credit card interest rate is 21.10 percent. Nevermind about card issuers taking a collective break from hiking rates. The average credit card interest rate increased after all this week after three separate lenders selectively hiked a handful of card APRs they advertise online. As a result, the average APR for brand-new cards broke another record on Wednesday, rising to its steepest point since CreditCards.com began tracking online card offers in June 2007.

Among the 100 cards tracked weekly by CreditCards.com, none advertised new interest rates. As a result, the average APR for new cards held steady Wednesday at its highest point on record.
