During its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 13, Brentwood’s Board of Commissioners debated a possible referendum on a bond issuance for the new racquet facility, and voted to defer a decision on improvements to Old Smyrna Road. Mayor Mark Gorman also swore in four new police officers during the meeting. Vice Mayor Ken Travis and commissioners Rhea Little, Anne Dunn, Susannah Macmillan, Allison Spears and Nelson Andrews also attended Monday’s meeting.

A few dozen people attended a town hall meeting on Jan. 9 to discuss the fourth and fifth phases of the extension and widening of McEwen Drive. The city of Franklin hosted the town hall at Columbia State Community College. Members of the public asked about logistics and contact information for the three-year project, which is scheduled to begin later this year.

Franklin City Hall to move forwardFranklin’s City Hall will meet its maker this year as the finishing touches are made on plans for its bigger-and-better successor. The current building, which was built as a shopping mall in the 1970s, will be torn down beginning in the spring or summer, according to the city of Franklin. A new multi-story building, as well as an adjoining park and underground parking lot, is slated for completion in summer 2027.
