The last few days have been heavy in Minnesota. Many people are experiencing a collective sense of grief in the wake of the targeted fatal shootings of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband. Coming up at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, MPR News host Kelly Gordon talks with her guests about the shared sadness, anger and anxiety — and how people can heal, together. And we want to hear from you, too.  What questions do you have about the different types of losses we grieve? What helps you deal with loss?

If you’ve spent time this week doomscrolling on your phone — even though you know it’s not good for you, that it ramps up anxiety and you’d be better off taking a walk or just going to bed — Emily Falk’s new book is for you. “What We Value” is a peek behind the mental curtain. Why do our brains intend one thing and do another? Why is lasting change, even desired change, so hard?

It was Memorial Day weekend, five years ago, when George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Bystanders recorded the nine-plus minutes that Chauvin calmly kneeled on Floyd’s neck, as the Black man pleaded for help and air. That video rocketed from phone to phone, from media to media and sparked worldwide protests against police brutality. But for the Black community in Minneapolis, Floyd’s murder was just a chapter in a much longer story.

I run a tight ship and don’t tolerate the nonsense, and this is likely largely in part because I run a dry boat — my crew seldom drink alcohol. And there are numerous other captains who run great programs too. I think you’ll find that the party and drama boats — and they are out there — will be the ones that seem most like Below Deck.

They flew over our house on their way back to Wisconsin. Made me homesick for San Diego - and while I guessed they were doing a tribute for 9/11, it was still eerie to have such a visceral reminder of that day.

🇺🇸 This gives me the chills every time. If I would’ve been 30 seconds later arriving home from work, I would’ve missed it… I got home and opened my door and they were finishing the national anthem and then the jets flew over. 🇺🇸 #911Day #NeverForget911 https://t.co/FAj1RTfg37
