Why do some people view winter as a magical season when others see it as something to dread? The secret is in the mindset, according to health psychologist Kari Leibowitz. She spent a year doing research in Tromsø, Norway studying how the people who live above the Arctic Circle celebrate deepest winter. What she discovered is that it goes beyond hygge. It depends on where your brain settles its focus. “Winter is many things. It’s paradoxical,” says Leibowitz.

“Is it really like Below Deck?” Well, sometimes! Some days I walk away asking myself if we just filmed our own episode on board. Kidding not kidding! I run a tight ship and don’t tolerate the nonsense, and this is likely largely in part because I run a dry boat — my crew seldom drink alcohol. And there are numerous other captains who run great programs too. I think you’ll find that the party and drama boats — and they are out there — will be the ones that seem most like Below Deck.

One year ago, St. Paul made history when it became the first major city in the U.S. to install an all-female city council. Just as remarkable: This group also makes up the youngest and most racially diverse council since St. Paul incorporated in 1854. Six of its seven members are women of color. All are 40 or younger. Wednesday at 9 a.m., you’ll hear a North Star Journey Live conversation MPR News host Angela Davis recorded last week with all seven St. Paul council members.

They flew over our house on their way back to Wisconsin. Made me homesick for San Diego - and while I guessed they were doing a tribute for 9/11, it was still eerie to have such a visceral reminder of that day.

🇺🇸 This gives me the chills every time. If I would’ve been 30 seconds later arriving home from work, I would’ve missed it… I got home and opened my door and they were finishing the national anthem and then the jets flew over. 🇺🇸 #911Day #NeverForget911 https://t.co/FAj1RTfg37
