Michael Hsu Office of Architecture’s design of The Kitchen is unveiled in stages. The 8,300-square-foot American bistro in Austin, Texas is designed to feel uniquely local as it captures the energy and calm of the city throughout its space. The rooms aptly contrast from light and dark, bold and serene, but all are tied together with a sense of place and warmth. The bistro begins with an open and airy bar defined by a vaulted, coffered ceiling with moldings extending down to the walls.

Two white boxes arise between an overgrown vacant infill and 1980s residence in Regina, Canada. The modern, rectilinear massing is home to a carpenter and emergency room doctor from South Africa. The clients wanted something different from the bungalow-turned-conventional-home that populates the neighborhood. 5468796 Architecture‘s design meets this brief both visually and spatially, sculpting a 2-story home whose monolithic massing disguises the views and outdoor connections that await within.

Ppl really just say things

in general, gen z culture doesn’t have a norm for greeting/acknowledging people they don’t already know. Their custom is headphones/eyes down until engagement is required. It’s a “don’t speak unless spoken to” culture. This of course feels dehumanizing to anyone older
