The Morganella-Proteus-Providencia (MPP) groups are closely related Enterobacterales that occasionally cause human disease (1–3). Unlike many other Enterobacterales they are opportunistic pathogens that are ubiquitous in the environment. Due to their confusing taxonomic history that has resulted in species being classified into different genera over time, they are often considered collectively as a group or within the tribe Proteeae (1).
