There are five San Antonio area football teams remaining in the UIL and TAPPS playoffs heading into the weekend. Holy Cross vies for a TAPPS Division III state championship this weekend in a rematch of last season's loss to Dallas Christian. Four other teams have moved on to the state quarterfinals in UIL playoff brackets. Harlan is in the fourth round for the first time as a program, while Smithson Valley and Boerne are programs accustomed to deep playoff runs.

It's Thanksgiving Week, and that means food and football. While traditionally for Texans the Dallas Cowboys and now the return of the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry take center stage this weekend, it also marks in earnest the march to the UIL state high school football championships as the winners this weekend advance to the state quarterfinals. There are still 12 San Antonio-area teams alive in the UIL playoffs spread across seven classifications from Class 6A Division I to Class 3A Division II.

While Friday night's District 13-5A-I clash between Smithson Valley and New Braunfels was picked as the Express-News Game of the Week, there are several other key district matchups on the docket this week. A District 28-6A game between Taft and Harlan - both in a tie for third - could have huge implications, with the Raiders still set to face undefeated Brennan in a pivotal game on Halloween.
