The City of Chandler is preparing to approve a budget at the same level as the previous year and will likely include cutting property owners’ primary tax rate for a 10th straight year. Staff presented their proposed 2025-26 fiscal year budget to Council during an all-day workshop on May 2. The total is $1.629 billion, which is about .1% less than this current year’s budget. If adopted by Council on June 12, it would be the second straight year the overall spending amount has decreased.

Until it ended with his death in February, Jessica Hogan said her son Jaycob was having the best day of his young life. “I have a huge hole,” Jessica said. “I don’t think anyone expects to lose their 18-year-old. He was never sick, he had the absolute best day of his life. We never saw it coming.”Mother’s Day is May 11 and it will be the first for the Chandler woman without Jaycob.

In their latest Toy Barn in Chandler, for example, you will see Lamborghini’s, and classic cars from the 1960s, and antique roadsters from the 1930s.

Four men were out drinking, celebrating the 21st birthday of one of them. The birthday boy passed out and Chandler Fire was called to help. Fire personnel called for Chandler Police to help with crowd control. With police officers only a few feet away, one of the four men stabbed the other in the neck. The victim died a few days later. The family of that stabbing victim filed a legal claim against the city, demanding $10 million in connection with the incident.

The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence in society has caused some teachers to worry about what impact it may have in education. “The initial reaction was a bit of a freak-out. Not to be too dramatic, but there were a lot of unknowns,” said Shaun Creighton, Chandler Unified School District’s director of instructional technology who has been CUSD’s point person on AI. “As a society, we have a lot to figure out,” he said.
