Samantha Rivera, 26, is facing risk of injury to child, assault on a public safety officer, first-degree criminal trespass, sixth-degree larceny and interfering with officer/resisting arrest charges, stemming from the hour-slong incident on Park Lane.

DANBURY — A Newtown music teacher accused of sexually assaulting children will serve the next four years behind bars as part of an apparent plea deal in two cases. Richard Neal, 70, received a total effective sentence Monday of 10 years in prison, suspended after four years served, followed by 15 years' probation after pleading guilty to two second-degree sexual assault charges at state Superior Court in Danbury earlier this year.

NEWTOWN — A 19-year-old Newtown resident is facing multiple charges — including attempted murder — after police say he violently attacked someone and then carjacked a food delivery driver Tuesday night. Stephen Wengart is charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, second-degree threatening, first-degree robbery, robbery by carjacking, second-degree assault, larceny of a motor vehicle and second-degree breach of peace following the two violent incidents.

DANBURY — The pretrial hearing for a Danbury man charged in an April fatal stabbing on Granville Avenue has been continued to July 7, due to ongoing discovery-related matters in his case. Bryan Caceres-Pinguil, 21, made a brief appearance Monday at state Superior Court in Danbury, where his attorney, Thomas Leaf, requested a five-week continuance to go over discovery he’s receiving from the Danbury State’s Attorney’s Office.
