One of Isla Vista’s staples found on the corner of Pardall, KOZY Coffee recently made the switch from Monin syrups to house made syrups, elevating the quality and taste of their drinks. With a new seasonal menu and new vanilla cold foam, a whole new world of drink combinations has opened up. As someone who is frequently at KOZY — a KOZY creature, if you will — I was more than excited to try the new drinks.

Last winter quarter, I made the decision to pursue a double major in communication and something else. At the time, I wasn’t completely sure what that something else would be. Over the summer I decided it would be statistics and data science. The next step was actually letting UCSB know I wanted to take on a double major.

Driving up and down the Pacific Coast Highway, stopping at the Bluffs, and driving home was always the go-to activity for me and my friends whenever we were bored. I will never forget those late night drives blasting music and just being at peace. Growing up in Santa Monica meant that the Pacific Palisades were always right around the corner.

The first ten weeks of college were my long haul. Fall quarter was my great war. I was in the trenches. As many are discovering for the first time during the fall season, notoriously sunny Santa Barbara is not all warm days and endless sunshine through the months of October and December. The sun sets at 5p.m., it’s always windy, it’s cold, the air is dry, and someone is always sick. As a freshman adjusting to college, that was the perfect recipe for disaster.

The intense bike culture at UCSB is undeniable. Everywhere you go, you’re bound to come across a biker zooming through pedestrians, but whether it be on the actual bike path or not is a 50/50 chance. Regardless, UCSB bikers are known to have the right of way despite what the signs around campus may say — I have never come across someone who has actually gotten fined, therefore, I choose to believe those signs are just intimidation tactics.

As a Los Angeles native, I will never experience disappointment from my favorite artist failing to come to my city as a stop on their tour. From Sofi Stadium to the Greek Theater to the Troubadour, LA will never be missed. Unfortunately, many fans across the world don’t share the same luxury as Angelenos. The Philippines is infamously known for being a country many artists skip while on tour, despite the millions of fans eager to see them live.

On May 19, the Associated Students Program Board held the 44th annual Extravaganza Music Festival at UC Santa Barbara’s Harder Stadium. This year’s theme was “Candy Land,” demonstrated by the colorful decorations that lined the stadium field. Blown-up versions of gummy bears, gumdrops and ice cream cones were scattered across the field, surrounding the classic “Extravaganza” sign posted at the entrance.

On April 30, UC Santa Barbara Arts & Lectures hosted renowned inaugural poet Amanda Gorman at the Arlington Theatre. As a part of the Justice for All initiative — which invites leaders from across the world to speak on systemic injustice — Gorman was invited to speak on her poetry and social activism.
