    Summit Metro Parks and the South Street Ministries Bike Shop sponsor nearly two dozen group Akron-area bike rides from May through October. Rides cater both to those with joint pains and are looking for a slower roll and to those looking to go fast and through park trails. Other rides celebrate Summit Lake, National Ice Cream Day and the start of fall with pumpkins. Riders should bring their own bicycle and helmet.     Feb. 14 Summit County Board of Elections meeting Covered by Documenter Wittman Sullivan (see his notes here) Five candidates in two Akron City Council wards will be on the ballot for the May 6 Democratic primary election. The Summit County Board of Elections approved the candidate petitions Friday along with 50 others for primary races across Summit County. The BOE rejected four petitions for various reasons, including insufficient valid signatures, fraud and technical errors.

    Presidents Day, formerly known as Washington’s Birthday, is celebrated on the third Monday of February. The birthday of the country’s first president  long before his death. President Rutherford B. Hayes made it official in 1879. At that time, only federal workers in Washington, D.C., got the day off. In 1885 it was decided that all federal workers, in the then 38 states, would get the holiday. Eventually, the holiday included honoring President Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is Feb.
