    Makeshift Theater has a new home at the Akron Woman’s City Club — and big plans for the historic space. The community theater organization announced last week that it signed a lease with the club to use its Coach House Theatre for future productions. This will become the permanent home of Makeshift Theater, which launched in 2023 and had its first run of shows last summer.

If your ID does not have a star, or you know people who are also starless, there’s no need to panic. There’s no penalty for not having one.     Here are three things to do in Akron this weekend. Celebrate John Brown’s 225th birthday with a hike and a history lesson Friday, May 9, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the John Brown Monument.     Fran Wilson secured the Democratic primary seat for Akron City Council’s Ward 1 after defeating incumbent Samuel DeShazior and candidate Emily Durway with nearly 52% of the vote in Tuesday’s primary election.  Incumbent Bruce Bolden is the presumptive council member after he held on to his Ward 8 seat by defeating challenger and fellow Democrat N.J. Akbar with more than 56% of the vote. There is no Republican challenger.
