    Lisa Johnson-Tonkins has been appointed by Gov. Josh Stein to serve in Guilford County Superior Court for the Judicial District 24A seat, the governor's office said Wednesday. Johnson-Tonkins is filling the vacancy created after the Honorable Lora Cubbage resigned from the position last month to take a job as deputy city attorney in Greensboro. She most recently served as a three-term clerk of the county Superior Court and ran unopposed in the 2022 general election.

    The city of Greensboro is requesting permission from the state's Local Government Commission to issue $23 million in limited obligation bonds for several projects that include $2.5 million to help pay for demolishing the Bellemeade Street parking deck. Other Greensboro projects involve funding to: build and equip a new fire station; acquire and install radio communications equipment for several departments; and acquire property for future governmental purposes.

    A regional water provider for the Triad is planning a major expansion of its water-treatment plant that would nearly double its daily capacity in anticipation of growth. The Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority gained approval from the state's Local Government Commission on Jan. 7 to issue a $130 million revenue bond for the plant at the Randleman Regional Reservoir.
