Two years after beginning the process, Costa Rica has finalized the licensing for businesses seeking to cultivate and produce hemp-derived products. The Central American country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) on Sept. 3 awarded 57 licenses for the two categories, according to The Tico Times. The licenses are good for six years.

A two-day auction is scheduled for next month to sell the remaining equipment assets formerly owned by defunct Michigan marijuana company Skymint. Skymint entered receivership in March 2023 after defaulting on a loan. Robert Levy Associates and Solid Asset Solutions on Monday said in a news release that an online auction would be held Nov. 12-13 for a wide range of marijuana cultivation, production, lab and warehouse equipment.

An unlicensed cannabis retailer in upstate New York has been ordered to pay $9.5 million in one of the largest penalties levied in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb illicit operations. State Supreme Court Judge Frederick Reed issued the judgment on Tuesday against George West, the owner of Jaydega 7.0, an unlicensed marijuana store in Ontario County, according to a news release from the office of New York’s attorney general.
