A person walking through Sydney's Barangaroo this Sunday, where it's forecast to reach 32 degrees Celsius, will experience what world leading researchers characterise as the most "extreme" risk of succumbing to heat-induced illness. However, if the same person walks around Western Sydney's Parramatta — 25 kilometres away from the CBD — where the mercury will push 37C, the risk rating will decrease to a "severe". This same scenario can occur anywhere in the country.
