The Dolphins’ Preseason Week 1 game at the Chicago Bears and the Preseason Week 3 game at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars will both be aired live on the league’s flagship network. The Preseason Week 2 game at the Detroit Lions will be available on local CBS coverage in Miami.

Photo by Carmen Mandato/Getty Images The ongoing saga of will-they or will-they-not continues with the Miami Dolphins and the possibility of trading Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith, specifically to the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicated the trade was dead, with the Dolphins keeping Smith. Later Tuesday, Schefter updated his report, however, indicating the Steelers are back in on trying to acquire Smith.

Smith, who set franchise records for his position in receptions (88), receiving yards (884), and receiving touchdowns (8) in 2024, is looking for a new contract this year. Signing a two-year contract in 2023, Smith has no guaranteed money remaining on his deal and no security beyond this season.

Almost two months later, the Dolphins made that official on Monday, moving Armstead to the reserve/retired list. Waiting until after June 1 allowed the Dolphins to maximize the salary cap relief they received from Armstead’s retirement. Miami owes about $18 million in salary cap accounting for Armstead.
