The Cape Breton Eagles need a new coach. Louis Robitaille has signed with a professional Russian hockey team for next season. He joined the Eagles before the 2023/24 season, and led them to two-straight playoff appearances. Robitaille has coached in the QMJHL for 14 seasons. In a statement, he calls the promotion a big challenge, and it was a tough decision because he loves the Eagles and the community.

Nova Scotia’s Liberals want to see more help from the feds on infrastructure. In a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, interim provincial leader Derek Mombourquette says he’s encouraged by the steady leadership Carney brings to Ottawa. He lists cell service, roads and highways, housing and wharves as barriers that need attention in the province. Mombourquette says Nova Scotians are ready to work with Carney to bring a stronger, more connected country.

The Kam River Fighting Walleye suffered their first loss at the Centennial Cup in Calgary. They fell 3-1 to the Grand Prairie Storm in their second game of the tournament Sunday night. The Walleye are now 1-1 at the national Junior A hockey championship, their first game was an overtime win over the Trenton Golden Hawks. They get right back at it Monday night in Calgary against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard.

The Halifax Thunderbirds season is over. They lost 10-9 in overtime to Saskatchewan Saturday night, and were eliminated in the National Lacrosse League semifinal. The Thunderbirds had to win to force a third game Sunday, they lost at home the weekend before in the first game of the series. It was the most successful Thunderbirds season to date, their deepest playoff run since joining the league in 2019. The Saskatchewan Rush will now play in the NLL final against Buffalo.

Last summer’s Congres Mondial Acadien has won an East Coast Music Award. The event in Yarmouth, Argyle and Clare received the ‘Event of the Year’ award during ECMA week in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The Congres brought thousands of Acadians together last August, a large concert was held at the Yarmouth Airport on National Acadian Day. Then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre joined hundreds marching through the streets of Yarmouth before the concert.
