Mombasa City was on Sunday treated to a street motor race of its kind. Scenes straight out of a Riverwood movie played out when tuk tuk drivers went behind the wheel to chase both the top prize and bragging rights. The competition was organised by the Mombasa County Government as part of the events to mark World Tourism Day.

Police in Mombasa are investigating an explosion that occurred inside an oil ship that docked near the African Marine Terminal in Liwatoni, Likoni. The loud bang, which sent shockwaves to buildings up to two kilometres away, caused a fire that damaged parts of the vessel, christened Eat Wind II. Tugs and fire engines from the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) immediately rushed to extinguish the fire, while people at the scene were quickly evacuated by rescue teams.

Lawyer Danstan Omari Sunday placed the number of people who have died in pastor Ezekiel Odero's church at 15, saying this was the figure since it started more than a year ago. Mr Omari and lawyer Cliff Ombeta spoke to the press after joining Mr Odero's defence team. They spoke outside Port Police Station in Mombasa County, where the man is being held.
