Lamar Best has passed for more than 5,000 career yards and rushed for 1,300-plus before he even enters his senior year of high school. No wonder the New Jersey prospect has already earned himself a college football scholarship. The offer he accepted this spring was from Delaware, making Best one of the Blue Hens’ earliest-ever commits. It’s also a sign of how Delaware will have to operate with its ascent to the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and Conference USA occurring this year.

The Blue Hens’ seemingly deep stable of quarterbacks has expanded. Riley Trujillo, who didn’t play in any games as a freshman at Central Florida last year, announced on social media April 29 he is transferring to Delaware. AdvertisementUCF did not hold an intrasquad game at the conclusion of spring drills. The Knights are once again being coached by Scott Frost, who led UCF in 2016 and 2017 before spending five years at Nebraska and did not recruit Trujillo.

Nnanna Njoku possibly moving from Villanova to Delaware had been a rumor if not a Blue Hens fans’ wish the last couple years. Now it’s a reality. Njoku, who never entered the transfer portal until after the 2024-25 season, has decided to come to Delaware, he revealed on his Instagram page. AdvertisementHe wasn’t the only object of UD affections in the transfer portal as the Blue Hens seek to undergo the annual roster rebuild that is now a mid-major necessity.
