    The Battle Ground Academy Wildcats fell just short of its fourth TSSAA boys basketball state championship on Saturday, losing 78-68 to the Providence Christian Academy Lions at Tennessee Tech University. BGA (24-13) held a four-point lead at halftime, 33-29, but fell victim to foul trouble in the second half and a 15-point second half by Lions star Chris Washington. He helped PCA (30-2) to the lead, 50-49, at the end of the third quarter.

    The Independence High School Eagles captured the Region 5-4A championship with a 47-33 victory over the Centennial High School Cougars Thursday night. Centennial (17-15), who defeated Franklin in the region semifinals, trailed by just four at halftime and outscored the Eagles 7-1 to take a 23-21 lead at the beginning of the third quarter. Independence, however, went on an 11-0 run and finished the quarter up, 32-23.

    The top-seeded Franklin High School Admirals escaped with a 42-40 victory over the defending state champion Independence High School Eagles in the District 10-4A championship on Tuesday night. Independence (18-12) got the ball with 9.1 seconds left to play and guard Dawson Miller missed a contested layup at the buzzer that would have tied the game at Page High School’s gym, which hosted the boys’ and girls’ tournaments.

    The Brentwood High School girls basketball team defeated the Page High School Patriots 47-35 to capture the 2024-25 District 10-4A tournament championship Monday night. Both teams found themselves tied at 10 after the first quarter, and Brentwood (23-4) led 18-15 at halftime. Brentwood used a 15-7 third quarter to pull away from the host Patriots and claim a 33-22 lead.
