PRETORIA - The State in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has brought an application to recall witnesses to testify on photographic evidence linked to the accused. On Monday, the trial resumed in the Pretoria High Court, where Advocate George Baloyi made his case. Five men are being tried for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain. Advocate Charles Mnisi was a no-show in court after he informed the court through a letter that he would be running the comrades marathon, and he sought leave to do so.

Last week, Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng drew widespread outrage after he rebuked Advocate Charles Mnisi for asking for leave as he would be running the comrades marathon. PRETORIA - The presiding judge in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has invited lawyers in the matter to apply for his recusal if they believe he is unfit to run the trialJudge Ratha Mokgoatlheng made an extensive apology for the race-based comments he made in court last week. As he rebuked a lawyer for asking for time off to run the comrades marathon, Mokgotlheng made comments about black lawyers and South Africa being run by blacks. The judge has since apologised for the comments.

JOHANNESBURG - The son of slain apartheid activist Fort Calata has testified before an inquest that he was told by a senior government official that his father’s case was part of the price that had to be paid during negotiations for South Africa’s freedom. The Cradock inquiry is on its fifth day in the Gqeberha High Court, and Lukhanyo Calata is on the witness stand.

GQEBERHA - With the reopened inquest into the assassination of the Cradock Four, the son of Fort Calata has told the Gqeberha High Court that the betrayal by political leaders post-apartheid cut the deepest. Matthew Goniwe, Calata, Sicelo Mhlauli, and Sparrow Mkhonto were killed by security branch police in 1985 while on their way from a meeting in Port Elizabeth.
