It started with a phone call. By the time I returned from an afternoon field trip, it had become half a dozen phone calls. Soon, I had also received dozens of photographs of “specimens” that included debris, carpet fibers, hair, skin flakes, and scabs, attached to a rapid-fire series of e-mails detailing the nature of a parasitic infestation that the sender was experiencing.
