For 41 years, Pellum and her non-profit organization African American Cultural Society have been the driving force behind Port Arthur’s Juneteenth celebrations, including a parade and gathering at Barbara Jacket Park. In recent years, the celebrations have featured a sunrise service at Boardwalk Park.

Travelers on Beaumont highways can expect to see moderate traffic this morning with a couple slow spots and heavier traffic being reported on the Texas Department of Transportation maps and cameras. The usual slow area on southbound Interstate 10/U.S. 69 due to a lane closure between Delaware and Harrison is of course in the red this morning. West Brook graduate Jasmine Thomas Reed is bringing her cheer and dance experience back to Southeast Texas in July, offering youth and adults a skills workshop that will get them up and dancing like a pro. Reed, a 2023 NFL Pro Bowl cheerleader for the Houston Texans and NBA Rockets dancer and team captain will be joined by other former NBA and NFL cheerleaders/dancers as they teach choreographed dances straight from the pro sport sidelines during the 3rd Annual Dance Camp 409.
