Photo by Eakin Howard/Getty Images The departure of ten players via the transfer portal would seem to put Arizona softball in a position of dire need of numbers. In reality, they don’t need to add as many as they lost. That doesn’t mean their needs aren’t pressing. The Wildcats carried a roster of 22 last year, which is larger than is typical for the program. It was the largest roster of head coach Caitlin Lowe’s tenure.

Photo by Ryan Kelapire The current transfer exodus from Arizona softball has many fans acting like there’s no tomorrow. Kezia Lucas and Sinalei Talataina would beg to differ. The pair of incoming freshmen were among the 40 athletes named to the PGF All-American Game rosters on Tuesday. The game will be played on July 26, 2025 with rosters of 20 from the West and 20 from the East. Both of Arizona’s freshmen will be on the West team.

Graphic courtesy of Arizona Athletics Transfers do not happen as often in NCAA gymnastics as they do in other sports. That doesn’t mean they’re unheard of, though. The Arizona GymCats will be welcoming one of the rare transfers next season when former Arkansas gymnast Sadie Smith joins the team. Smith was a freshman last year but did not compete for the Razorbacks.

Her scores from both Level 9 and Level 10 indicate that bars are her strongest event, but she will also train beam and vault at Arizona.

Photo by Ryan Kelapire Arizona is definitely the “what’s going on there?” team this softball offseason. It was a position Washington was in last year and Alabama was in two years before that. Big programs that have the portal floodgates open and carry away half the team. What was once a team that just needed pitching and a bit of depth at key positions now needs almost an entire outfield.

There are now 8 players in the portal from Texas Tech softball. Five entered today. Mostly freshmen and mostly native Texans. #Big12SB

Kamora Pruitt on her official visit to #ArizonaWBB. Would be a huge get for Becky Burke if she can close the deal. Tough to get those DeSoto kids. No. 24 in c/o 2026, SF https://t.co/OZ4Ox4Up0Z
