SAN CARLOS, AZ — The San Carlos Apache Tribe held a vigil for Emily Pike on Saturday, who was reported missing out of a Mesa group home and was found weeks later dismembered off the US 60 northeast of Globe. Pike's family is calling the 14-year-old a symbol and the San Carlos community is calling for action. "Emily has awoken this light and this courage to speak up," Alyssa Dosela, Pike's aunt. As hundreds gathered to honor Pike on Saturday, tribal leadership announced a new reward in the case.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is seeking charges against six individuals after a shooting at Sky Harbor in December 2024. Officials say after reviewing evidence, surveillance footage and interviews, detectives have submitted cases to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office and the Juvenile Court Center against six people — three adults and three minors. A teen and his mother are renewing their push for statewide brass knuckle legislation after he was attacked in a Gilbert parking lot in December 2022. Connor and Stephanie Jarnagan went to state lawmakers with the goal of banning brass knuckles in 2024, but were unsuccessful. They're hoping that by revising the bill to only ban brass knuckles for minors in the state, the bill will have a better chance of passing.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that 42-year-old Alex Anthony Madrid has received the death penalty for the murder of a teen girl. On December 6, 2013, the body of 14-year-old Claudia Lucero was found in a dumpster two miles away from her home in Mesa. Lucero's mother had reported her missing after nobody had seen her at school the day before her body was discovered. The medical examiner's report stated Lucero died of strangulation and her body showed signs of sexual assault.

DENVER, CO — A Phoenix-based flight attendant died during a layover in Denver, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) said Sunday. The association identified the flight attendant as Celinda Levno, who began her career as a flight attendant in 1989. American Airlines said in a statement that Levno was the "victim of a senseless crime" Saturday night in Denver and the incident is being investigated by Denver law enforcement. The airline did not specify the nature of the crime.
