Whether you just need a satisfying, savory snack or are hosting game night, these wings are easy and addictive. Some people, rightly so, view wings as just a vessel for sauce, but these get extra crispy in a hot oven and could be devoured as is. The accompanying sauce, however, offers a nice slow heat with a bit of tang and sweetness. Serve wings with pickled vegetables to counter the richness, and lots of napkins. A good beer or sparkling rosé pair well.

Bibimbap, which literally translates to “mixed rice,” is a bowl of rice that can be topped with almost anything. For home cooks, bibimbap usually means, “let’s get rid of all the leftovers.” It’s perfect for this time of year, when we want to lighten things up, maybe go a little more austere in the way of eating. If you’re into auspicious foods, add a combo of cooked and raw greens such as collard, spinach, mustard, kale and some black-eyed peas.

Juicy seared pork chops with seasonal apples and onions cooked until softened and just starting to caramelize make for a quick and easy fall dinner. Fragrant, hardy herbs, such as thyme, sage, or rosemary and a hit of cream balance out the sweet and savory nature of this dish. An economical choice, thin-cut Alaska-raised pork shoulder, aka blade, chops are often available at Butcher Block/Mat Valley Meats or look for the same cut in most grocery stores.

If this time of year brings to mind bobbing for apples or biting into bright red candied shells with your dentist on speed dial, here’s a quick and easy version featuring white chocolate. While dark chocolate is my go-to for savoring, white makes for a great backdrop for holiday sprinkles and other favorite coatings, such as yogurt-covered pretzels or Oreo or Biscoff cookies. You can use dark or milk, in lieu of white chocolate.
