But for individuals and families facing food insecurity, accessing fresh, healthy food isn’t always easy. In Waterloo Region, nearly 74,000 people, including 25,000 children, live in food-insecure households, making it difficult to maintain a balanced diet.

The upcoming provincial election comes at a crucial time for Ontarians, as food insecurity continues to reach record levels across the province. In our 41 years at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, we’ve never seen a higher demand for emergency food assistance. One in eight households in Waterloo Region rely on food support — a staggering 150 per cent increase from just three years ago, when it was one in 20.
