Many borrowers looked into their accounts Monday, May 5 to see no payments are due. Meanwhile, the federal government said unpaid loans could impact credit reports and take away from paychecks. All of these changes are causing confusion for loan borrowers, and for Hawaii that is more than 120,000 people in limbo.

KAILUA, Hawaii (Island News) -- A dozen moms were able to play and spend time with their kids at Women’s Community Correctional Center on Saturday. In collaboration with Keiki O Ka ʻĀina (KOKA) Family Learning Centers, 19 kids attended family day at the facility. KOKA volunteers decorated the Maunawili Cottage courtyard, with families playing games and making floral arrangements and cards ahead of Mother's Day.

Natalie Brown Ah Quin, the 2022 Lei Queen has been hands-on for days making more than 30 leis for schools kids to celebrate lei day. ”Sometime I can take half an hour to make a lei, to an hour, it all depends on intricate or how simple it is," said Brown Ah Quin.

HONOLULU (Island News) -- As the school year slows down, the search for bus drivers is at full speed. The Department of Education (DOE) announced changes for next school year, giving parents time and options to look at this summer break. ”What we don’t want to happen is a repeat of last year," said DOE Superintendent Keith Hayashi. Last minute contract changes caused 138 bus routes to be cancelled before the 2024-25 school year across Hawaii.
