Devon, Pa.—May 31Initially Irene Neuwirth didn’t think that showing at Devon would be in the cards for Holland Park. She just purchased the 6-year-old Westphalian (Dior—Lotta Kann Alles) last September, and she started showing him this winter, so he was light on points, and when the qualifying lists came out for Devon, he was 14th on the waitlist. When Holland Park made it into the show, Neuwirth figured he’d just be coming for the experience.

Devon, Pa.—May 31On Thursday night before the Sapphire Grand Prix of Devon, Mark Bluman told his mount Ubiluc, “If you’re top 3, you don’t jump on Saturday.” The pair didn’t quite get it done, finishing ninth after having one down. So Bluman decided to give it a shot in the final FEI class of the Devon Horse Show, the $145,100 Idle Dice Open Jumper Stake. He had his work cut out for him though: Of the 35 entries, 19 went clear to advance to the jump-off.

The U.S. Equestrian Federation has expelled hunter/jumper trainer Shannon Eckel and fined her $2,500 for actions it found contributed to the unintentional death of a horse in her care. The ruling stems from a 2021 incident in which a horse called Cobain, which she had in training at her Hat Trick Sporthorses in Aiken, South Carolina, died after Eckel left him tied unattended in his stall while she went to a nearby horse show, Stable View Summer Classic II Horse Show.
