U.S. Border Patrol agents intercepted two drug smuggling attempts and confiscated narcotics worth nearly $800,000 last week in San Clemente. The agents seized around 140 pounds of drugs within 24 hours from the San Diego station. Border agents arrested a driver on March 17 at 2:52 p.m. after they found 29 packages of heroin, fentanyl and cocaine in the driver’s vehicle during a search at a Border Patrol station.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a consumer alert Wednesday urging residents to see if they are eligible for free or low-cost tax filing options amid tax season. Eligible taxpayers can file their 2024 federal and state taxes for free through the IRS Direct File and CalFile programs. “For many families, tax season brings an opportunity to get a catch up on bills, build some financial breathing room for emergencies, or finally take the car in for repairs,” Bonta said in a release.
