Good morning, President Donald Trump sent the auto industry into a tailspin Wednesday evening when he announced a 25% tariff on imported cars and some auto parts will go into effect next week. Good morning, About 450 displaced Southwest Detroit residents are still in hotels as the city cleans out their flooded basements. Many have complained that their city-provided meals ‚ÄĒ like hot dogs and potato chips ‚ÄĒ are inadequate. The city said it uses hotel catering to feed the residents. In response to complaints, officials said they will switch to contracting with local food trucks ‚ÄĒ as it did in the first few days of flood recovery. Other challenges still need attending to.

Good morning, Detroit: We want to give you a heads-up about a potential scam. A TXT OUTLIER user messaged us after strangers showed up on her doorstep asking to conduct an energy efficiency survey. The visitors repeatedly said they were with Mayor Mike Duggan’s Solar Neighborhoods Initiative and that their service was free — but they also asked for the resident’s credit score and seemed more interested in selling her solar panels.

Good morning, We still don‚Äôt know exactly which failures led up to the tragic death of two of Detroit‚Äôs youngest residents. It appears the children froze to death on Monday night while sleeping with their family in a parked van. Two adults and three other children were also in the van, but survived. Mayor Mike Duggan held a press conference on Tuesday and called for accountability. He called for a review of the Detroit Housing Resource HelpLine to be concluded within two weeks.

Good morning, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer‚Äôs $83.5 billion budget proposal includes funding to help residents struggling with their water bills, which average $112 a month for a family of four in Detroit. The proposal also calls for a 32% wholesale tax on vapes and nicotine pouches, and a requirement for elementary schools to notify parents if they use an ‚Äúevidence-based, aligned‚ÄĚ curriculum ‚ÄĒ an effort to improve education transparency.
