Sex can be a taboo topic for many students, which is why the Students’ Association and Project Lighthouse organized Sex Fest. The Algonquin Wolves women’s volleyball team faced off against the Canadore Panthers on Nov. 4, ending in an unfortunate loss for Algonquin. The game started with Canadore scoring the first point and setting the tone for the next three sets. Though they were always close in score, the Wolves couldn’t catch up in time. The qualms of laundry day in residence at Algonquin College are finally over for most students. On Oct. 27, residents woke up to brand-new laundry machines after a week-long maintenance closure of both laundry rooms. Students learned they would be unable to access the laundry rooms from Oct. 23 to Oct. 27 after an email from the residence days prior. They were hopeful the old machines would be fixed to settle the struggles of guessing which ones would be functional on laundry day.

Students living in residence at Algonquin College all know the pain of laundry day. Between guessing which dryer won’t work by the amount of lint in the trap to slamming the washer door closed so the cycle finally starts — never mind the constant out-of-service machines — the laundry rooms are not ideal. Students were relieved to hear that the machines would be under maintenance in an email sent out on Oct. 18.

Droves of students strolled through a part-time job and volunteer fair in the Student Commons on Oct. 4. Some stopped to listen to job opportunities, while others handed out resumés. The fair was organized partway through the term, which is a good thing according to event volunteer, Pragya Parmar. “When you take into consideration the international students, they’re coming from different countries and settling in a new country,” she said.
SA puts on Pride resource fair for LGBTQ students

To kick off the Students’ Association’s Pride Week, volunteers organized booths full of resources for LGBTQ students on Sept. 25. Between overflowing pamphlets and business cards, one booth had a spinning wheel for Pride-themed prizes: rainbow print Algonquin Wolves jerseys, Skittles and rainbow stickers. “It’s kind of a fun, interactive thing for students who can come on by and check it out,” said bachelor of commerce student and volunteer Matteo Mongroo.

I’m not comfortable with people knowing my legal name. I changed it for a reason. It didn’t fit me as a person or align with my gender identity. It was something I’ve hated ever since I was a kid. Now as a college student, I find myself dreading bringing my friends to my dorm, or even just sending an email. I get anxious waiting for them to find out that Kit isn’t written on my birth certificate. On my Algonquin College email, the display name is my deadname.
