Energy giant Origin told the former New South Wales government that keeping the ageing Eraring coal-fired power station partially open would only cost taxpayers about $70 million a year. A bundle of commercially sensitive documents filed with the NSW Parliament show Origin advised the state in July 2021 that keeping two of Eraring's four units operating beyond 2025 would cost between $56 million and $71 million a year.
