The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears softball team posted a 2-4 record in the 2025 Blue & Gold Softball Tournament over the weekend at Anchorage’s Chuck Albrecht Softball Complex, getting a taste of what next month’s state tournament competition might bring to the fields. The Crimson Bears opened with two difficult pool-play games against Cook Inlet Conference leader Bettye Davis East Anchorage and conference challenger Dimond for seeding in the tournament.

The Division I Southeast Conference Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears baseball team toppled their SEC Division II host Petersburg Vikings in a two-day rain deluge at Mort Fryer Ball Park. JDHS won 16-1 on Thursday as they earned 17 walks from the Petersburg pitching staff while collecting just five hits, two by Madden Mendoza and one each from juniors Marcus Mendoza, Chris Andersen and Nate Fick.

Two goalkeepers highlighted the Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears 3-0 win Thursday over the visiting Soldotna Stars at the Adair Kennedy Memorial Park pitch, one for the victors and one for the vanquished. JDHS freshman Callan Walker was given his first varsity start and performed like a senior, earning a clean slate, numerous saves and a couple hard knocks. “I feel very excited about that,” Walker said.

The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears girls had their chances in Thursday’s game against visiting Soldotna, outshooting the Stars three-to-one on the Adair Kennedy Memorial Park soccer pitch, but falling by the score of 2-1. “We are still struggling with keeping the ball in bounds and making the back line turn,” JDHS coach Matt Dusenberry said.

The Juneau Youth Wrestling Club took 61 elementary through high school wrestlers to the Alaska USA Wrestling 2025 Folkstyle, Greco-Roman & Freestyle State Championships on May 1-3 at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center in Wasilla against 37 grappling clubs. Wrestlers competed in Folkstyle (FK) on the opening day of the tournament, Greco-Roman (GR) on day two and finished with Freestyle (FS).

A last-minute goal by West Anchorage senior Hattie Luckasson sunk the Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears girls soccer team 2-1 on Saturday at Adair Kennedy Memorial Park. The Crimson Bears were out of position on reversal from offense to defense and that resulted in pressure on JDHS junior keeper Alba Muir, who blocked a shot in the box and recovered to send another across the front. But the rebound found Luckasson and she struck it in.
Rain dampens JDHS softball play at Ketchikan

With nearly five inches of rain falling on Thursday in Ketchikan all softball games were postponed to Friday and a doubleheader between the visiting Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears and host Kayhi Kings at Dudley Field turned into a marathon of base running. “The varsity struggled today,” JDHS coach Lexi Razor said. “Ketchikan played well and took advantage of some weaknesses we need to work on this week.”JDHS did not get off to a good start in a 12-5 loss.
