Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé senior Nick Iverson had a relaxing weekend run in Anchorage — two, in fact. Iverson ran away with two state titles during the ASAA/First National Bank Alaska Track and Field State Championships over the weekend, winning the 1,600 meters in a personal record 4:22.29 and the 800 meters in 1 minute 57.57 seconds. “I am kind of glad to have my two main ones over with,” Iverson said.

The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears boys soccer season came to an end at the 2025 ASAA/First National Bank Soccer State Championships consolation game for third or fifth place on Saturday at Colony High School in a 5-0 loss to the pre-tournament favorite Knights. In the tournament’s championship game the West Anchorage Eagles defeated the West Valley Wolfpack 2-1 for the state title.

The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears baseball team opened the Region V Championships at Ketchikan with a 10-5 win over the Kings and will face Southeast Conference regular-season winner Sitka on Friday. Ketchikan led 2-0 through the top of the third inning before JDHS took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half. Kayhi tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, and JDHS scored six runs in the bottom half to take control of the game and hold on for the win.

Chrishtianna (Chrish) Newell, a 2012 Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé graduate, always had a particular strong point in sports since her Crimson Bears soccer days, which is now perfected into the competitive world of obstacle endurance contests of Spartan Deka and HYROX. “Functional strength and mental toughness,” Newell said of her new love for HYROX endurance and strength competitions.

Longtime Juneau referee Robert Sims, 75, was named the 2024-25 Alaska Sports Official of the Year recently by a joint committee of members from the Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). “This is a relatively new recognition sponsored by NFHS and ASAA,” ASAA Associate Director Brian Hosken, the committee head, said.
