Dr. Ken Ashigbey, Convenor of the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, has urged the government to revoke licenses granted for prospecting and mining in forest reserves. He called for an immediate halt to mining activities in forest reserves and water bodies (LI2462) to prevent further environmental destruction. Dr. Ashigbey made the call during the Annual New Year School and Conference organised by the University of Ghana School of Continuing and Distance Education, College of Education in Accra.

Agboada, the Returning officer for Ayawaso Central, has officially declared Mr Abdul Rauf Tubazu of the National Democratic Congress as the winner of the parliamentary election. He polled 29,755 votes, representing 55.6 percent, while Mr Henry Quartey got 23,345 votes, representing 43.6 per cent. The independent candidate, Mr Charles Kwame Adams, got 163 votes, representing 0.39 per cent.
