Izabel serves as treasurer of the Interact Club, and the Weatherly Area High School chapter of the National Honor Society. She is also a member of Science Olympiad and Teens Against Tobacco Use, and is involved with Kufro’s Closet.

Students at Holy Family Academy in Hazleton participated in a Rapping About Prevention assembly on Feb. 19. The Rapping About Prevention program focused on healthy eating and exercise for students in grades preschool to fourth grade. Fifth through eighth grades participated in team building activities and were taught character building skills and anti-bullying lessons. The Youth Ministry of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Parish will sponsor a gift card bingo on Saturday, March 15 at the Warrior Run Fire Hall, 316 Academy St., Warrior Run. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and games begin at noon. Admission is $25 (in advance) and includes 15 regular games, each awarding a $100 combination of gift cards. There will also be five specials, door prizes, basket raffle, bake sale, food and a 50/50. The final special awards $500 cash and $500 in gift cards.

I’m Big Now Learning Center students recently had the chance to learn about dek hockey, which is similar to ice hockey, but played without skates on a sport court and with a ball. On Jan. 17, Kyle Hammer came in to the Shavertown center and did hockey demonstrations with the prekindergarten through primary students. Students learned some hockey basics such as passing and stick handling.
