Recently, I read online a patient response to the poor faith interpretation of toxic masculinity as a denouncement of men as a whole, as if they were all toxic by definition. The response noted that the use of “toxic” as a qualifier suggests that there exists a masculinity that is not toxic. Which begs the question, “What is masculinity?” Like gender, masculinity is socially constructed.
