Thousands participate in Church Mental Health Summit

On October 10, 11,000 registered participants from 129 countries tuned in to pre-recorded videos covering various topics relating to mental health and faith. The Church Mental Health Summit exceeded its 2022 record of 5,000 registrants, attracting a larger audience than ever this year. Held on World Mental Health Day, this free event offered registrants hours of valuable content to explore.

“I paint people at work,” says Karen Bailey. That’s how she came to be rolling sandwiches in a church kitchen in Ottawa one day, alongside the 70- and 80-year-old women whose portraits she was painting. That’s also how, the next day, she was flying to Afghanistan, entering the Kandahar Air Field in a sandstorm to document Canadian military medical personnel at work. For over four decades, Karen Bailey has painted Canadians who serve.
Changes at Trinity

A new president, a closing Theatre department, a massive influx in international students, and, as of March, the faculty are unionised. A lot has changed in the past five years at Trinity Western University (TWU) in Langley, B.C., Canada’s biggest Christian liberal arts school. On March 10, after covid-related delays, TWU faculty finally received confirmation from the B.C. Labour Board that their unionization vote from October 2021 had been successful.

There was no possibility of meeting in person that day. The pandemic had brought with it risks so new, and an uncertainty so deep, that gathering the lectio divina group in the same room was now out of the question. A few minutes before 8:30 a.m., I settled my infant daughter and her toddler brother with their father in the next room. My daughter was often fussy when separated from me, and I hoped I’d have enough quiet to focus.
