It also offers a glimpse into what was top of mind for Google’s online community that year. As 2023 concludes, we’ve put our twist on this yearly tradition. Nonprofit professionals are masters at stretching their budgets. Leveraging free platforms and features is one of the best ways to make a budget go further—but I know that these tools are  only helpful if you can quickly get up to speed with how to use them. That’s why, as the Head of LinkedIn for Nonprofits, I was disheartened when research revealed that only 19% of nonprofit professionals on LinkedIn feel confident that they’re using the platform to its full potential.

Movements are having a moment.  In 2022, the term “social movement” generated more internet searches than in the previous five years according to Google Trends. Given this level of interest, some nonprofits are applying the phrase to such a broad range of activities it is becoming watered down.  When it comes to raising visibility on a given issue, nonprofits often strive to achieve broader impact—the kind of change that comes through collective action.

At Candid, we recognize that nonprofit leaders and fundraising professionals, particularly those working at small or under-resourced organizations, need access to the nonprofit training and resources that equip them to do good. As Candid moves to more proactively promote equity in the broader social sector, we also continue to reflect on what our own role might be in supporting that effort.
