WHEELING, W.Va. (WCHS) — A covert investigation of Midwest reptile shows revealed a West Virginia reptile dealer illegally trafficked wildlife, federal prosecutors said. Michael Kandis, 64, of Wheeling admitted to wildlife trafficking in violating the Lacey Act, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Kanawha County officials have approved a funding request for a youth program with a long history of performing arts. The Kanawha County Commission has allocated $80,000 for the Children’s Theater of Charleston so the group can place a down payment on a new building, according to a social media post from the commission. “We’re proud to support great local arts programs like this one,” the post read.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A man wanted in Ohio on gun charges was taken into custody in Huntington, U.S. marshals said. Lerah’j Laron Kirkland, 18, of Columbus, Ohio, was taken into custody about 7:45 a.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Linden Circle in Huntington, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service. He was wanted on felony gun charges in Franklin County, Ohio. A firearm in Kirkland’s possession was also recovered during his arrest, the news release said.

Josey’s Mexican Cuisine & Margaritas will be opening in the 1300 block of Hal Greer Boulevard, according to a Facebook post from the business. The post said workers are making “a complete overhaul” of the former G.D. Ritzy’s with plans to provide extra seating in the back of the building. G.D. RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (WCHS) — A juvenile is in police custody after a gun was found at a Jackson County, West Virginia, public school Thursday afternoon, officers said. A prevention resource officer was notified of a student in possession of a firearm at Ravenswood Middle School and worked with school administrators to search the youth’s locker, according to a news release from the Ravenswood Police Department.
