My love of the tortilla pinwheel has been a lifelong one. Even as a kid, when I walked into a party and saw a tray of those little spirals, I would be delighted. Why? Well, why not? You take typical sandwich ingredients and you roll them up into bite-sized pinwheels — that’s way more fun. It somehow makes the ingredients within taste even better, and that’s just the case with this H&T High Rollers, which are my family’s favorite solution for snack, party app, or breaking the lunchbox boredom.

The only thing better than regular ol’ French onion flavor might be upping the ante by doubling up on that French onion flavor. And that’s just what we’re doing here! We’re taking some economical sirloin beef tips and simmering them in some French onion soup AND French onion soup mix until they’re fall-apart-tender and so full of flavor. I have made a lot of cookies over the years and yet there are still probably thousands I still haven’t made. (This is a good problem to have.) So, naturally, I was delighted when I came across this old recipe card for a cookie I’ve never made or even tasted — Mrs. Horn’s Soft Peppernuts. Peppernuts, or Pfeffernusse, are a German cookie, full of honey and warm spices that are perfect for Christmas, but delicious anytime of year.

At this point, I’ve made a lot of recipes from old recipe cards and I have definitely found some favorites, but I have to say that my favorite category of recipe cards are the holiday ones. After all, holidays are about tradition and my favorite holiday traditions generally revolve around cooking! I love to see the recipes other families held dear during the holiday season and this one, Ann Roger’s Christmas Cookies, seemed like a very festive addition to any Christmas cookie box.
