Sometimes, these movies surprise everyone and become big hits. M3GAN (2023) came out the first Friday in January and, despite its $12 million budget, made over $180 million and earned a sequel slated for summer next year.

The next series we have to look forward to doesn’t have a release date as of yet. However, it’s the project we’re maybe the most excited for at the moment.

Arguably (and maybe not even arguably) the most anticipated geek movie of 2025 is James Gunn’s Superman. This movie, more than any other in the nascent DCU, will need to establish the style, the tone, the overall ethos of this revamped DC Studios connected universe. If the first teaser trailer for the DCU’s Superman is anything to go by, we’re in exceedingly good hands. Superman looks full of heart, warmth, hope, and kindness amid all the expected superhero action and world-building.

The machine that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe always has to keep the fires burning for the next project—or often three projects down the line—and has done since the beginning. Teases for future movies have become requirements. This has, as a result, led to journalists finding things out about these movies way ahead of time, likely long before Kevin Feige and company were ready to tell us.
