    DFPA RESPONDS TO WILSON CREEK FIREMay 10, 2025 9:00 a.m. Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association in conjunction with the Tenmile and Camas Valley Rural Fire departments responded to the Wilson Creek Fire early Saturday morning. The fire was located along Coos Bay Wagon Road in the area of Iverson Memorial Park. DFPA Business Manager Jill Miller said two squads and an engine from DFPA along with engines and a tender from Tenmile and Camas Valley were on scene.

    NEARLY 4 PERENT OF DOUGLAS COUNTY BALLOTS RECEIVEDMay 10, 2025 7:00 a.m.  Nearly 4 percent of ballots have been received for 2025 Douglas County May Special Districts Election as of Friday afternoon. Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis said 3.91 percent, or 3,470 ballots, have been returned. Loomis said that lags 2.99 percent behind the participation rate for the same point in the last special districts election in 2023.

    MOP-UP EFFORTS CONTINUE ON BARREL GROUND FIRE NORTHEAST OF YONCALLAMay 9, 2025 3:50 a.m.  Mop-up efforts continue on the Barrel Ground Fire, northeast of Yoncalla. Douglas Forest Protective Association Business Manager Jill Miller said more accurate mapping has the fire at 36 acres with no growth expected. Miller said mop-up work will continue over the next few days. The fire was reported late Wednesday morning. Miller said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

    PROCLAMATION FOR NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICER AND EMPLOYEE WEEKMay 9, 2025 3:30 a.m. Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Tom Kress and Chris Boice issued a proclamation at their weekly business meeting on Wednesday, recognizing National Correctional Officer and Employee Appreciation Week, taking place through Saturday. A county release said the proclamation recognizes the work and sacrifices that correctional officers and personnel do on a daily basis.

    May 9, 2025 3:05 a.m.  Douglas Timber Operators and the Umpqua Fishery Enhancement Derby have announced the opening of the grant application process for the 33rd annual derby. A release said thanks to the generous support of its sponsors, all proceeds from this year’s derby will remain in Douglas County, directly benefiting river restoration and fish enhancement projects throughout the Umpqua River Basin. The deadline for applying for grants is Friday, June 5th at 5:00 pm.
