MIDVALE, Utah — On Monday, October 28th, Midvalley Elementary School experienced a “power and heat outage” after what appears to be an act of vandalism via arson. Video of the incident showed “an older male with a grey beard” setting fire to a utility box, which caused the outage. Later that day, Unified Fire Authority Arson Investigators tracked down and arrested a suspect. During the outage, Midvalley Elementary switched to online learning.

TOOELE — A brush fire in Tooele County was quickly brought under control by fire crews Saturday afternoon, according to Jon Smith from the North Tooele Fire District. At about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, first responders received a call about a wildfire near the town of Delle. Fire crews located the fire at a popular target shooting destination. While the exact cause is still under investigation, the fire crews did confirm it was human caused.

Richard and Carol Lyman entered the gubernatorial race as write-in candidates shortly before the legal deadline. Several parties accused the Cox campaign of bribing them to join the race in an effort to confuse voters.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The BookFest, a virtual literary event for both readers and writers, is holding its 10th biannual livestream later this month. The event, which takes place on October 26th and 27th, will feature panel speakers, virtual booths, giveaways, and awards. Attendance is free. This year’s Fall BookFest will feature more than 50 speakers. The first day will focus on readers, with a string of panel speakers giving deep dives into their writings and subject matters.

SALT LAKE CITY — Members of Utah Task Force One helping with recovery efforts in the Southeast are on their way back to Utah. On Saturday, members of the team received their orders to return home. “UT-TF1 has successfully completed their missions for Hurricane Helene and received their demobilization orders. They have started their journey home,” a post read on the Utah Task Force One’s Facebook page.
