    BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- The Ross Park Zoo made the announcement on Mother’s Day that the zoo is welcoming two baby penguins to their African Penguin colony. African Penguins used to roam South Africa and Namibia in the millions. But now, only 13,000 are left in the wild. “Populations have actually changed from endangered to critically endangered. Their numbers are threatened due to habitat loss and overfishing,” said Animal Care Manager at Ross Park Zoo, Sara Welge.

    CONKLIN, N.Y.(WBNG) -- Susquehanna Valley’s Varsity Baseball team suited up for their game against Oneonta on Saturday night. But before pitches were thrown and bats were swung, the school honored former baseball coach Lou Howell by naming the new turf stadium after him. Howell spent many years coaching on the diamond for SV, but former players who spoke at the ceremony shared stories of life lessons and leadership he passed onto his players.

    VESTAL, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Late afternoon on May 10, a car crashed through the side of Buffet Star. The vehicle entered through the side of the building and left several people with minor injuries. Yohance Bailey suffered minor injuries and watched the crash firsthand. “I took my first bite and my first sip of drink, and I‘m hearing what sounded like at the time like a plane crashing, but then it kept getting progressively louder,” recounted Bailey.

    BINGHAMTON, NY(WBNG) -- The Binghamton Black Bears were back home in the 607 for Game 3 of the Commissioners Cup Finals, hosting the Carolina Firebirds. Heading into the game, the Black Bears were 2-0 in the series, and a win at home would mean Binghamton would claim the title on home ice in back-to-back seasons. With tickets for the game selling out on Monday night, it was safe to say that the fans were amped up to get in the stands and cheer on their hometown team.

    JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Governor Kathy Hochul officially passed and signed the New York State Budget at Johnson City Middle School on May 9. Hochul signed the budget with a group of Johnson City Middle Schoolers. “I wanted to make sure I could fight for your moms and dads to have more money back in their pockets. Everything’s getting so much more expensive — your sneakers, your clothes, your backpacks, and it’s been hard, it’s hard for them to pay the bills," said Hochul.
