The Georgia team that won the SEC championship and returned to the College Football Playoff a season ago was not quite on the same level as recent iterations of the Bulldogs. Coach Kirby Smart and Co. lost more games in 2024 (three) than the previous three years combined (two). And since Notre Dame knocked UGA out of the CFP, there's been a good deal of attrition from that 11-win team.

He wasn't far from the game, though, which looks different than it did when he was fired at Florida in 2021. Between the proliferation of the transfer portal, rampant NIL growth and waves of conference realignment, college football keeps changing.

When George took the Tennessee State job - the former Heisman Trophy winner's first foray into coaching - it was April 2021. By that standard, George got an early start at Bowling Green, which hired him as the program's 21st head coach on March 9.

Austin Simmons would have graduated from Pahokee High School in Florida earlier this week. But two years ago, the two-sport athlete chose to get ahead of the game and launch his collegiate career early. Simmons - who reclassified from the high school class of 2025 to 2023 - recently graduated from Ole Miss at age 19 with his bachelor's degree in multidisciplinary studies.

Before the Pro Volleyball Federation began, playing overseas was the only option for American volleyball players with professional aspirations. So that's what Brooke Nuneviller, a three-time All-American at Oregon, did. After spending time in Turkey in 2023, Nuneviller heard about the PVF, which presented the opportunity to continue to play professionally stateside. The fledgling league launched in early 2024 with eight teams located around the country from San Diego to Orlando.
