    GRAND CANYON VILLAGE, Ariz. — All inner canyon trails at the Grand Canyon are closed because of a chlorine gas leak at Roaring Springs, the national park said on Wednesday evening. The chlorine gas leak was reported at Roaring Springs, which is the water source for all canyon facilities. All inner canyon corridor trails are closed, including: Bright Angel South KaibabNorth Kaibab The closure affects both day and night hikers, the Grand Canyon National Park said in a notice on their website.

    PHOENIX — New year, same argument: Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne are at odds again on how to bring oversight and accountability to the state's school voucher program. In her "State of the State" address on Jan. 13, Hobbs said public education is the "Arizona promise," and for children across the state to have access to that promise, there needs to be "overdue accountability" brought to the Empowerment Scholarship Account program.

    CAVE CREEK, Ariz. — Two Arizona non-profits are helping horses forced to evacuate from southern California as fires rage on. Owner and founder of One Step Wild Burros and Mustang Rescue Stacie Thomas said this isn't the first time the group has lent a helping hoof to horses and animals in need. A few years ago, Thomas was contacted by an equine center during the Malibu fire, and after asking the community for help, they were able to drive a trailer out to help.

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — An 8-year-old boy died Saturday after a statue at the Arizona Biltmore Resort fell on him on Wednesday, Nov. 25, authorities said. Phoenix fire crews responded to the scene around 9 a.m. One of the famous "Sprite" statues fell over and crushed the child, Phoenix Fire told 12News. Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller said the boy had a head injury. The statues are original parts of the Biltmore and were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
