An unemployed baker turns up in a tiny French village to attend the funeral of the man who brought him into the baking trade and commemorate with the family, who were his friends before he left town a decade earlier. That’s an unlikely setup for a thriller. But writer-director Alain Guiraudie uses it to launch “Misericordia,” an unsettling journey to a murder and its ever-more disturbing investigation. It would be a shame to give away who is killed and why.

The online ads for Jackie Venson’s Saturday Zoo Bar show find her blazing through a solo that captures the essences of why she’s at the forefront of “blues guitar.”But the latest guitar slinger to come out of Austin, doesn’t call her sound blues — for good reason, as the blends R&B, psychedelic rock and a touch of reggae into her music to create dynamic contemporary sound. “I guess I’ll call my sound ‘rock,’” Venson told Guitar World a couple years ago.

The Mavericks are not now nor have they ever been a country band. Sure, The Mavericks received a pair of Country Music Association awards, three Academy of Country Music awards and a best country album Grammy honor in the 1990s. They’ve seen songs such as “What A Crying Shame,” “Oh What a Thrill” and “Here Comes The Rain” run up the country charts. But, stylistically and culturally, The Mavericks aren’t just country.

Yo-Yo Ma, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Pops and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis will each return to the Lied Center for Performing Arts in its 2025-26 season. “This year is a season of masters,” Lied Center executive director Bill Stephan said. “Many of the most celebrated artists are back at the Lied, some for the first time in decades.”The latter will include the Philadelphia Orchestra, which last played the Lied Center in 2002.
