CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Schools across Iowa are adjusting attendance policies to comply with a new state law. Senate File 2435 defines "chronic absenteeism" as when a student is absent for 10% of the school year. "We have just been working diligently to try to understand the law, and try to think about our policies and procedures that would align with that law," Director of Student Services for Cedar Rapids Community School District, Chris Gibson said.

EVANSDALE, Iowa (KCRG) - Lyric was 10-years-old and Elizabeth was 8-years-old when they disappeared on July 13, 2012 after riding their bikes in Evansdale. Hunters found their bodies five months later. Twelve years later, a new documentary series could draw the kind of attention to bring new leads. The 3-episode series titled: "Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth?" is available to watch on the streaming platform HBO Max.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Johnson County Board of Supervisors purchased the apartment complex located on Hollywood Blvd. that contains 15 units. The newly renovated townhomes will go toward the affordable housing deficit in the county. "We're in the neighborhood of 8500 affordable units short. So if 8,500 units popped up today, we'd be where we need to be. So that gives you some idea of just how far behind we are," Board Supervisor Rod Sullivan said.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) -Sunday was a special reunion for children who graduated from St. Luke's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The children reconnected with the nurses, doctors, and staff that helped take care of them during their stay. "Everything. Everything surprises me about them. You see these babies that were you know, one pound, sometimes less and now they're up and walking and talking, and it's just amazing. They're miracles," NICU staff member Jennie Montgomery said.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Students in Cedar Rapids go back to school on Aug. 23. That means parents are getting their kids school supplies, and the expenses can add up. When people think of supplies kids need for back to school, there's a good chance they think of pencils, paper, and crayons. But Community Connections of Iowa hosted a Back to School Blast event where parents could get free back to school clothes as well as other supplies.
