Tragedy struck in Enugu State on Saturday when no fewer than 18 people were burnt to death and 13 others injured in a tanker explosion at Ugwu Onyeama, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, in the Udi Local Government Area of the state. The incident occurred around 11.30am when a fuel-laden tanker while descending a hill collided with a water truck belonging to JUHEL Nigeria Limited, triggering an explosion that caused widespread panic.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has recorded 54 confirmed cases of Lassa fever out of the 196 suspected cases from December 30, 2024, to January 5, 2025.  The NCDC also recorded 10 deaths with a Case Fatality Rate of 18.5 per cent. The National Emergency Management Agency has deployed an emergency rescue team to Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway in Niger State, following a tragic tanker fire explosion. The incident occurred on Saturday morning along the Dikko-Maje Road, opposite Baddegi Station. Reports indicate that the explosion happened after a tanker carrying PMS crashed, and an attempt was made to transfer its contents to another tanker.
